India has emerged as the one-stop destination for game development with outsourced services constituting 80 per cent of the total market. According to Swati Salunkhe, career counsellor, “Natural passion, even though very important, is only one aspect that makes a good gaming professional. Being a perfectionist is highly-sought quality. Finally having a ‘go-getter’ attitude to do the best and come out with a killer title is what works.”
Skills required >> Strong interest in video games >> Good communication skills >> Good knowledge of software >> Meticulous and attentive to detail >> Ability to follow instructions >> Ingenuity and innovation Arijit Bhattacharya, CEO, Virtual Information and Communication, says: “We don’t seek for a particular degree when recruting, those interested are tested in logical thinking, drawing and IQ.”
Pros and cons
Positives of being this industry: >> It’s a highly creative field >> It’s open for people from various educational backgrounds having originality >> It’s a good pay for the young minds Negatives of being in this industry: >> Working very late hours
